Hydrogen in Japan
The Embassy in Tokyo organizes various innovation missions, also on the topic of hydrogen. Hydrogen, in spite of the COVID-19 challenges, receives increasing attention as a key feedstock in the energy transition. A long-term substantial position of hydrogen however requires adequate politics & policies, technologies & innovations, investments, standards & regulations for the total value chain. From source to use. The Netherlands and Japan are important players in this field. Sectors in chemistry, energy and industrial innovation are well developed over the whole chain. Public bodies have formulated policies, roadmaps and support schemes.
Previous bilateral missions and events have led to concrete steps towards bilateral collaboration between governments, industries and knowledge institutes. This is valued as essential to forward developments in Japan, the Netherlands and the international arena. In contrast to the others this mission will be virtual. But it has the same objective in its ambition to deepen understanding and develop the relations further. What is the potential of the collaboration at hand? What action plan is necessary to realize such potential? What other organizations need to be involved? What adaptions are needed to the current ecosystem to ensure maximum effect of the collaboration? We hope that the disadvantages of a non physical visit and digital meetings will be compensated by better possibilities to meet more and higher level colleagues from Japanese counterparts. A virtual mission also requires more preparations in advance but enables deeper discussions. Time to think and make strategies and agreements to get ready and stand-by for when we can go ’live’ again. The delegation will consist of professionals from Netherlands governments, companies, investors and knowledge institutes that together represent the whole hydrogen-chain, from production to use. We hope and will do our best to ensure that the visit will be beneficial for the delegation and the hosts in Japan alike.
